The Weather and Other things

Hope has given me inspration for the New Year to write something in the Blog. My writing skills are deplorable, and hers are very good.

Anyway, everyone has a little something to say about their weather, so here goes. It has been about 10 years or more since Dallas has had temps as they were last night. Our wind chills were about 10 degrees last night, and tonight will go down to about zero. The furnace kicked on for good about 10 pm last night when UT was headed for defeat! With McCoy injured early, Bama came in for the kill. You would have to see our house as it is not isulated for that kind of weather! We have single paine windows and air leaks all over the place. Maybe twenty years ago, I should have invested some money to plug the gaps. We always choose to say 'the hell with it' and packup the bags and head off on another road trip to see another part of the world. I guess that's been part of my life since Mike and I were young. Dee joined me 47 years ago and we are still travelling. I have had so many friends and classmates who have died in the last few years we might not even be arround for a 'payout' ha ha

Anyway thaks Hope for the inspiration. I don't know how long it will last.

Mayflower Families- William Mullins-DeWolf

Thanks Marion for your contribution to our Wiliam Mullins-DeWolf Mayflower Line. This gives a good background of some of our early relatives from Dorking, England, before their venture to Holland, and on to Plymouth.

Granville Phinehas

With my recent research for completing the Priest- Pratt Mayflower Line, I stumbled onto what is likely the link to the Phinehas Pratts of Granville (formerly Bedford). They are listed in the Mayflower Families Vol. 8 for Degory Priest. That book is in many Libraries where there is a Genealogy section.

1959 Class Reunion- Cedarville, MI 7/4/2009

Eleven Classmates and their wives/ husbands showed for our Cedarville 50th Class Reunion in the UP of Mi over the 4th. Mike also drove up from Myrtle Beach. We started with 30, and 8 who have sadly passed. Had a great time in the nice cool weather, as the high was about 80 during the day. Evenings cooled to about 50.

Started with a two hour tour on Classmates (Rex) yacht in the Les Cheneaux islands- Cedarville just East of Mackinaw Island. We have completed this trip 3 times before. The last time was 10 years ago! Landed at Hessel Marina for lunch, back to Cedarville and napped until the Friday Lions white fish fry at the school that evening. Fish was gone by the time we arrived so headed to a local bar for burgers and beer.

Up the the next morning at 7am for the Volunteer Fire Dept Pancake breakfast. At 10am we hopped onto a hay wagon pulled a classmates (RB) tractor. At 10 pm, still daylight in the UP in summer, we gathered at the Marina for 45 minutes of fireworks over Cedarville Bay (almost full moon).

Sunday early, we hit the road west to Escanaba, Green Bay( Lambeaux Field), Milwauke Pubs (great brews), and Chicago O'Hare to fly to DFW.

More pics are on Fickr. Let me know if you need and 'invitation'. No charge.

Norteast Texas Storms

Violent storms with 70-80 mile per hour winds raced across Northeast Texas last night just before dusk. Tornado sirens blasted (and anouncements to take cover) for about 30 minutes in Plano as the radar was picking up 'rotation'.

Stacia was up from Houston to pick up the boys. They, including the dog, were in one bathroom closet and Dee and I had one foot in and one foot out. Imagine that!

Our ballpark- elementary school complex across the street has many split oak trees. The neighborhood has trees and fences down. Fortunately for us our 2 old oak trees in front and one large ash in the back are still standing and not on the house! We were also lucky not to lose power. Thousands in the metroplex are without power. So far we havn't heard of any tornadoes that touched down at least in our area.

Still lightning and heavy rains this morning going to work but the winds have subsided.

Have a good day.

Mayflower Update

After returning from NSB, I received the William Bradford Certificate by mail. I had submitted the Documents to Midge Hurtuk, CT Mayflower Society, about three months ago, and wasn't sure it would 'fly'. That makes number three from Grand Mother DeWolf's side.

I should be able to complete the Pratt (Grand Father Pratt) side in a month or two. The fourth (Degory Priest) will be the last, and complete the journey which was started by some very dedicated Aunts and Uncles many decades ago.

All Cousins will easily be able to attach themselves, and their children to these Lines should they desire.

Enjoy

Texas Motor Speedway (TMS)

Oops. Chris caught the 'tres amigos' at the speedway several weeks ago.
